CALL FOR NOMINATIONS

Do you know a dietetics professional who should be recognized for their achievements? Nominate them for an IAND award today!

Nominations will be accepted through February 5th, 2025.

Please review the Awards Comparison Sheet  if uncertain of the appropriate nomination.

Information that will be requested to upload as part of the award application form is as follows:

  • Resume or Curriculum Vitae
  • (1) page, single-spaced, typed personal statement outlining why you feel you would be the best candidate for this award.
    • Please provide information about your current involvements and future plans in the profession.
    • This letter should be addressed to the Indiana Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Awards Committee and include your Academy member number, credentials.
  • (1) page, typed list of additional awards, volunteer activities, certifications, or professional accolades, including but not limited to:
    • Leadership in dietetics at a national, state, or district level
    • Membership or leadership in other professional associations
    • Career guidance, mentoring, or other volunteer activities
    • Involvements with legislation/ public policy
    • Publications (books, articles, etc.)
    • Research
    • Media/ Public Relations
    • Workshops, seminars, or other programs you have either implemented or been an integral part of executing
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • (1) photo that IAND can use at the Annual Meeting this April. This photo can be a headshot, you giving a presentation, doing community service – whichever suits you best as long as you can be clearly identify you in the photo.

Outstanding Dietitian of the Year- (Formerly Honored Dietitian)

This is the highest award granted by the Indiana Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

ODY Qualifications and Scoring Criteria

Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year (RYDY)

The purpose of the RYDY program is to recognize the competence and activities of younger dietitians in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (the Academy) and to encourage their continued participation in association affairs. This group will be an additional resource from which the leadership of the Association will develop both at the district, state, and national levels. The RYDY award recognizes one RD/ RDN annually.

The RD chosen as Indiana’s RYDY will be recognized at the Indiana Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Annual Spring Meeting. The name of the RYDY will be published in the fall issue of the Journal of Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and a press release will be sent to the RYDY’s news outlet of choice. The RYDY will be awarded a certificate of recognition and congratulatory letter by The Academy president and may pick up a ribbon at the FNCE conference the following fall signifying their achievement.

RYDY Qualifications and Scoring Criteria

Recognized Dietetic Technician of the Year (RDTY)

The purpose of the RDTY Award is to recognize the professional contributions of Dietetic Technicians in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (the Academy) and to encourage their continued participation in association affairs. The RDTY award recognizes one DTR annually.

The Dietetic Technician, Registered chosen as Indiana’s RDTY will be recognized at the Indiana Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Annual Spring Meeting. The name of the RDTY will be published in the fall issue of the Journal of Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and a press release will be sent to the RDTY’s news outlet of choice. The RDTY will be awarded a certificate of recognition and congratulatory letter by The Academy president and may pick up a ribbon at the FNCE conference the following fall signifying their achievement.

RDTY Qualifications and Scoring Criteria

Emerging Dietetic Leader (EDL)

The EDL Award recognizes the competence and activities of dietitians regardless of their age, who have made distinctive contributions early in their dietetics careers to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

The EDL award recognizes one RD/ RDN or DTR annually.

The RD/ RDN or DTR chosen as Indiana’s EDL will be recognized at the Indiana Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Annual Spring Meeting. The name of the EDL will be published in the fall issue of the Journal of Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and a press release will be sent to the EDL’s news outlet of choice. The EDL will be awarded a certificate of recognition and congratulatory letter by The Academy president and may pick up a ribbon at the FNCE conference the following fall signifying their achievement.

EDL Qualifications and Scoring Criteria

Annual Member Media Award

Nominees are required to submit a portfolio with media events that occurred only in the current year.

Annual Nutrition in the News Award

Nominees should readily promote AND campaigns, use Registered Dietitians as a resource and be accurate and objective in their reporting.

Food and Nutrition Policy Advocate Award

The purpose of the Food and Nutrition Policy Advocate Award is to recognize a member of the Indiana General Assembly or other state elected official that has helped promote or advance nutrition policy.  The award will be given at the annual Day at the Statehouse event that takes place in March.

Annual Kaleidoscope Award

(This award was repurposed to National Nutrition Month funding in 2019)

The Indiana Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics developed the Kaleidoscope award to celebrate the accomplishments of community-based nutrition initiatives that have made a positive and significant impact on residents in the community they serve.

Student Awards

Student award nominations are due February 10th to Rachel Dolgner at rachel.dolgner1@gmail.com. Please include a head-shot of the student, one letter of recommendation, personal statement, the student’s resume, and this awards data sheet: Outstanding Dietetics Student Award Form

We will be accepting awards for students in the following programs:

· Coordinated Program in Dietetics (CPD)
· Dietetic Internship (DI)
· Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD)
· Dietetic Technician Program (DT)

Criteria Includes:

· Member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Students must be members by January 1st of the year in which they would receive the award. Students must supply their membership number; membership identification numbers will not be provided to a third party (i.e., educators).
· Student enrolled in ACEND-accredited dietetics education program (CP, DI, DPD, or DT)
· Demonstrated academic achievement as documented by letters from program faculty or preceptor.
· Demonstrated leadership and professional potential, e.g., honors, student dietetic association activities, community service activities, etc.
